The new Wilson DUO Soft TRK 360 offers you something you don’t usually see in a $22.99 per dozen golf ball.
Whether it’s something you want in a $22.99 per dozen golf ball is a different question entirely.
Wilson is launching its new DUO Soft TRK 360 today. It’s the same DUO Soft it released last month but with the addition of a multi-colored 360-degree “track” in Wilson black-and-red coloring. The idea is that the track serves as an alignment aid. It’s used on the tee and the green to help golfers aim in the right direction.
It’s also something golfers can use on the practice green. A golfer can easily distinguish between a nice, true roll and a wobbly one.
Is TRK 360 unique?
Yes and no.
The TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe is a urethane-covered ball and runs $42.99. Then there’s the fishing bobber-like Srixon Q-STAR TOUR Divide, also urethane-covered, which runs $39.99. The Srixon Z-STAR DIVIDE runs $49.99 per dozen while the Callaway ERC Soft Triple Track is $35.99.
However, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a low-priced, low-compression, two-piece ionomer ball with that kind of alignment marking. You might find some Volvik balls with alignment aids discounted from higher prices down the DUO Soft levels but there won’t be much else from mainstream OEMs.
The DUO Soft line has been a winner for Wilson since it launched the pillow-soft line in 2011. From its earliest days, Wilson touted a core compression as low as 27. Wilson measures the 2025 DUO Soft compression to be a still-soft 37. (We measured the 2023 model at 45.)
Why should you care about a soft golf ball?
The Wilson DUO Soft has a strong following, largely due to the fact that hitting a ball this soft can be downright addictive. A ball this soft will always come with a ball speed penalty. However, because it’s low-compression, most golfers regardless of swing speed can engage the core to a substantial degree. With a positive attack angle off the driver, a low-compression ball will launch high with low spin.
That means in theory the ball should curve less and fly straighter which for the habitual slicer could mean the difference between the right rough and the right fairway.
Granted, a basic two-piece ionomer ball won’t turn into a spin monster on your approach shots. It’ll still be low-spin so holding greens will be based on high flight and a strong descent angle. The target DUO Soft golfer likely isn’t looking to land it past the pin and spin it back.
