INDIA TO HOST ASIA OCEANIA KABADDI CHAMPIONSHIPS


India will host the Asia-Oceania Kabaddi Championships from August 13-17, 2025. More than 300 top kabaddi players from the region are expected to make their way to Hyderabad, Telangana.

The tournament hosted by the All India Kabaddi Federation (AIKF) will be held under the auspices of World Kabaddi and Asia Kabaddi. World Kabaddi is the largest governing body for the sport with more than 55 member countries around the globe.

The event to be managed Global Sports and Events is expected to the cream of player representing national teams from both Asia and Oceania competing for the men’s and women’s team titles.

The Asia-Oceania Kabaddi Championships is expected to be officially launched in June where more details of the event would be revealed.

Under the auspices of World Kabaddi, several major internationals are being planned both at world and regional levels. The Kabaddi World Cup was recently conducted successfully in West Midlands, England.

The African Women’s Kabaddi Championships is also being planned to be held in June in Tunisia. July will see the inaugural Afro Asia Cup taking place in the middle east.

Similar regional tournaments are also being planned to be held in Europe and Pan America. The inaugural Beach Kabaddi World Cup is also scheduled to take place this year in Malaysia.

AIKF secretary Danvir Singh said that the hosting of the Asia-Oceania championships in Hyderabad would help propagate and strengthen the sport in the region.

“After winning the double at the World Cup in March, the target for the Indian teams here will also be two win both titles,” said Danvir.

Among the teams expected at the Asia-Oceania championships include India, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, Australia, New Zealand and Qatar.

The Asia-Oceania Kabaddi Championships is open only to members of World Kabaddi.

World Kabaddi secretary S.T. Arasu said that the organisation looks forward to another successful hosting of a major international championships in Hyderabad.

“Asia and particularly India is the cradle for kabaddi and we believe Indians from all walks of life would turn up to support this championship,” said Arasu.
