Analysis: Dundee Stars finalise roster, sign Hampus Olsson

The Dundee Stars’ offseason recruitment drive is complete.

Marc LeFebvre made 30-year-old forward Hampus Olsson his final summer signing on Saturday [30 August], just hours before Dundee’s opening preseason fixture.

Olsson arrives in the Elite League with a wealth of professional experience, spanning his native Sweden, Poland, and Denmark.

He is the second Swede to join the Stars for 2025-26, following the addition of netminder Emil Kruse.

Who is Dundee Stars forward Hampus Olsson?

Olsson joins the Stars after a season split between the Polish Hockey League and Denmark’s Metal Ligaen.

Starting the campaign with Unia Oswiechim, he recorded 29 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 21 league appearances for the Polish side, adding a further eight points (four goals, four assists) in six Champions Hockey League games.

Olsson transferred to the Esbjerg Energy in February, scoring six goals in nine Danish top flight outings.

Before venturing to Poland and Denmark, the 6-foot-6 forward spent six seasons in Sweden’s second and third divisions.

Olsson recorded 123 points (47 goals, 76 assists) in 207 HockeyEttan appearances, potting 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in 88 HockeyAllsvenskan games.

In 2022-23, his first season outside Sweden, he played a crucial role as GKS Katowice were crowned champions of Poland.

The Stars believe Olsson will lift their attack to new heights — and it’s easy to see why.

“Hampus is a monster of a human being who brings size, skill, and experience to our line-up,” said Stars head coach Marc Lefebvre.

“He competes hard, he is great at the net front, and he takes pucks to the net. He’s also a crafty player of his size.”

Capable of playing on either wing, Olsson is a proven point-producer, with valuable Champions League experience and natural physical gifts.

The Angelholm-born forward isn’t afraid of going to the net, with most of his goals coming from in and around the blue paint.

Olsson projects as a top-six winger and net-front powerplay presence for Dundee.
