Liverpool score three before half-time after falling behind against Frankfurt

Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate all found the net as Liverpool came from a goal behind to lead against Frankfurt before the break in their Champions League clash in Germany.

Former Eintracht player Ekitike levelled with a fine finish less than 10 minutes after full-back Rasmus Kristensen had broken the deadlock for the hosts in the 26th minute.

Four minutes after they drew level, Liverpool were in front when Van Dijk nodded home Cody Gakpo’s corner to swing the advantage in the visitors’ favour.

With the Reds looking to avoid a fifth straight defeat in all competitions, Konate popped up with a valuable third on the stroke of half-time to give Slot’s side a comfortable cushion going into the break at a rain-soaked Waldstadion.

Four goals in the opening 45 minutes in a game featuring Frankfurt hardly seems surprising. In the space of just 12 days in September, they featured in a 5-1 win, 6-4 win, 4-3 defeat and 5-1 defeat, and have elsewhere been involved in 4-1 and 5-0 victories this term.

As things stand, a Liverpool win would lift them to 11th in the Champions League table, while Frankfurt would drop to 22nd.
