Dhaka, Bangladesh, October 22, 2025 — The much-anticipated CAVA Cup for Men 2025 got underway on Wednesday at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, setting the stage for a week of electrifying volleyball action among six competing nations — Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, Maldives, and Afghanistan.
The Opening Ceremony set the tone for the championship, featuring vibrant cultural performances and a remarkable display of unity and sportsmanship. Dignitaries, officials from the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA), and passionate fans packed the venue, underscoring the growing enthusiasm for volleyball across the region.
The single round-robin preliminaries are being held from October 22 to 24, followed by a rest and recovery day on Saturday, October 25. The tournament resumes on Sunday and Monday, with the grand finale taking place on Tuesday, October 28.
The top two teams after the preliminaries will battle it out for the championship title, while the third- and fourth-placed teams will contest for bronze. The fifth- and sixth-ranked teams will face off in the 5th–6th playoff.
Day One Results
Match 1: Turkmenistan defeated Nepal 3–0 (25–22, 25–18, 27–25)
Turkmenistan’s balanced offense and rock-solid defense proved too much for Nepal to handle.
Didar Nuryyev and Bagtyyar Hemrakulyev spearheaded the attack, guiding their side to a commanding straight-set victory.
Match 2: Sri Lanka narrowly edged past Afghanistan 3–2 (25–23, 22–25, 26–28, 25–22, 15–11)
This five-set thriller kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.
Akindu Subasingha and Deepthi Ranawaka powered Sri Lanka with consistent spikes and timely blocks, while Afghanistan’s Sabawoon Wardak impressed as his team’s top scorer in a valiant effort.
Match 3: Bangladesh put it past Maldives 3–0 (25–21, 25–13, 25–21)
Hosts Bangladesh delighted their home supporters with a clinical performance. Led by Ratul Ahmed and Horosit Biswas, the team displayed impressive teamwork, precision, and energy to claim a confident opening-day triumph.
More than 1,000 spectators filled the stands to witness the exciting start of the championship, cheering passionately for all teams — especially the home favorites. The day’s action perfectly reflected CAVA’s vision of fostering volleyball excellence and unity across Central and South Asia.
At the end of Day One, Bangladesh and Turkmenistan stood atop the standings with identical 3 points after their straight-set wins. Sri Lanka followed closely in third with 2 points, while Afghanistan claimed 1 point from their narrow loss. Nepal and Maldives occupied the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
