Jesse Lingard makes shock decision to leave career in limbo – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard has made a huge decision regarding his playing future.

United career

Lingard joined the Manchester United academy in 2000, winning the Youth Cup in 2011 alongside Paul Pogba and Ravel Morrison.

He made his senior debut in 2014 and became a regular in the team during the 2015–2016 season. His biggest moment for the club came in 2016, when he scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

Lingard’s United career turned sour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, and he went out on loan to West Ham United in 2020.

The England international then left the club permanently in 2022 to join Nottingham Forest.

After his contract ended, he spent several months out of football before signing for South Korean side FC Seoul.

Career in Korea

Lingard played a total of 66 games for FC Seoul, scoring 18 times and providing 10 assists.

In fact, just a couple of weeks ago, he scored twice and provided an assist for the South Korean side in the Asian Champions League.

End of a chapter

The BBC report that “former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard says he has ‘mutually agreed’ to terminate his contract with FC Seoul and will leave next week.”

He will play his final game for Seoul in the Champions League on Wednesday against Australian side Melbourne City.

Writing on his Instagram, Lingard wrote, “after positive discussions with FC Seoul, we have mutually agreed that I will be leaving the club at the end of the 2025 season, with my final game on December 10th.”

He added, “my time in South Korea has been unbelievable – the football, the atmosphere and the passion around this club have been top class.”

Lingard concluded with, “the love, support and the appreciation you have shown towards me for these last two years has been truly amazing. I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to play for such a massive club.”

Lingard will now become a free agent and faces a dilemma about where his career will head next after spending two seasons playing far away from the top level.
