Newly hired Nathaniel Hackett jumps ship to Arizona, will serve as offensive coordinator

The Miami Dolphins will need a new quarterbacks coach.

After Nathaniel Hackett was rumored to be the Dolphins new quarterbacks coach as late as last week, a new report by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network says that Hackett is jumping ship to join the Arizona Cardinals.

In Arizona, Hackett will serve as their new offensive coordinator under new head coach Mike LaFleur, brother of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. Though both teams are entering a rebuild, the move is not a lateral one for Hackett. He will not call the plays in Arizona, but he will have far more control of the offense than he would have in Miami.

Hackett has two decades of NFL and college football experience on both sides of the ball. Last season, he worked for the Green Bay Packers as a defensive analyst, under current Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley. The connection between Hafley and Hackett was a strong reason for his “arrival” in Miami, but it was seemingly not strong enough.

The Dolphins will now have to look for a new quarterbacks coach to work under offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.
