Luciano Darderi took out the winningest player in Chile Open history on Saturday, defeating 2024 champion Sebastian Baez, 6-4, 6-3, to reach his sixth ATP final.
Darderi, who will face World No.81 Yannick Hanfmann in Sunday’s final, is now 15-2 on clay since July.
Hanfmann took out top-seeded Francisco Cerundolo to reach his first ATP final in six years.
The German came up with a massive effort to take out the Argentinean, winning 27 of 34 first-serve points and saving both break points he faced, including a crucial save at 5-4 in the second set while serving for the match.
Cerundolo, the champion in Buenos Aires earlier in February, entered the match with a 4-1 lifetime record against Hanfmann at tour-level.
Hanfmann, 34 will bid for his first title on Sunday, while 21st-ranked Darderi (24) is bidding for his fifth title, all of which have come since the start of 2024 (including three last year).
