[EDIT] April fools! But we’re leaving the feature as a hidden surprise (shift+g only).

Many companies track your online behaviour, to predict your next moves and take advantage of you. At Lichess however, we respect your privacy.

We want users to feel safe using our platform, without worrying about data being captured. That’s why we are rolling out fully autonomous Knights across the site, to keep you safe in game, and watch out for threats. Knights have historically been presented as defenders of their realm, and so we thought they were the perfect piece to develop into a watchful guardian. You can enable them via the “advanced cursor tracking” board setting, or by pressing shift+g.

We hope you enjoy playing your games (or puzzles) under their watchful eyes. You can feel safe in the knowledge that they are there to help you, rather than reporting your activities back to the highest bidder.

Try it on the daily puzzle.

Or see what it looks like:

Note: this feature is only available for playing games and puzzles, and only on the web version – not the app.
