Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday went on to heap praise on Sanju Samson, shedding light on his match-winning batting performance during India’s victorious campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Samson’s World Cup heroics turned him into a national hero over the past few months. Being credited nationally, the Indian Prime Minister has also stepped up to cite him as an example to inspire the masses.
Samson is currently a part of the Chennai Super Kings camp in the ongoing IPL and will be playing his first game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium today against last season’s runners-up, the Punjab Kings.

PM Modi heaps praise on Sanju Samson for T20 WC heroics
Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on to heap praise on Samson and highlighted the batter’s match-winning impact during the Men in Blue’s triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The Prime Minister addressed the Keralam karyakartas and mentioned that Samson’s performances under pressure are truly a lesson for the folks to learn to keep focus and temperament.
“Today, the cricket season is going on, and for the people of Kerala, this is also something to learn. Like we often see in the performance of Sanju Samson, we saw Sanju Samson in the World Cup,” Modi said.
Indian PM underlined Samson’s ability, which makes him a ‘true player’
The Indian PM mentioned that Samson has the unique ability to evolve as a true character on the field. He also mentioned that the batter has shown the identity of a true player by stepping up for India when it mattered the most for them.
“As the crunch situation came in the tournament, the knockout stage came, and his performance suddenly reached its peak. From start to finish, his focus, his confidence and his intensity kept increasing. This is the identity of a true player,” he emphasized Samson’s rise in high-stakes moments.
The Prime Minister of India further highlighted that Sanju Samson has the ability to deliver when it mattered the most for India. “When the team needed him the most, he showed his best. This is the identity of a true player,” he said.
Sanju Samson’s long list of T20 World Cup records
Samson made several massive records with his stupendous innings in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The wicket-keeper batter was included in the Indian team, and he managed to score 321 runs after having played just 5 matches.
He broke the record for the most runs by an Indian batter in a single edition of the competition. Samson also averaged a record high of over 80 in the ICC T20 World Cup. He also set the record for the most sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup, with 24 sixes.
With three half-centuries in the ICC T20 World Cup, he joined an elite list of cricketers to have scored consecutive fifties in the competition. After modest starts, he turned the tide with an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies, and then followed with back-to-back 89s in the knockouts of the tournament.
