Streaky spells reigned supreme in Saturday’s Bullet Brawl, with six players in the top 20 posting winning streaks of at least 10 games. Among them was the winner of the last two editions, Terry, and his 16-game streak in the second quarter indicated that he was in the kind of form that might garner him a trifecta.

Despite Terry’s exceptional start, five other players: Le, CM Nika Volkov, GM Oleksandr Bortnyk, Taher, and Arjun all kept pace. None started better than Arjun, whose 26/30 start saw him rise to the top and create a buffer between he and the then second placed Le.

In a crucial showdown between the pair, Arjun sliced open the center with 27.Rxe5!! before uncorking a coup de grâce bishop sacrifice that confirmed victory on the 29th move.

Earlier against Volkov, who was leading at the time, Arjun weathered his opponent’s attempts to bewilder him and used clock pressure to induce a fatal blunder.

Rather than took his foot off the pedal, Arjun continued his rampage and notched a 14-game winning streak, his longest of the event.

Part of Arjun’s decisive streak.

Several of his closest challengers, including Bortnyk, Terry, and Le were put to the sword on multiple occasions during this time, widening the gap to 34 points at the top. An 18-move win over Terry stemming from the Reti Gambit Declined, Advanced Variation was his second quickest win of the streak.

With a huge lead in tow, Arjun tapered off the intensity of his play and eventually secured victory by a 19-point margin.

Another shining star of Saturday’s Bullet Brawl was IM-elect Atwell, who knocked over multiple 3000+ rated players and is showing great promise to join IMs Alice Lee and Polina Shuvalova and become the third women’s player to reach a 3000 rating on Chess.com.
