Alex Ovechkin will talk to his family and management before deciding if he’ll play next year or not
Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: It’s sounding like the 40-year-old Alex Ovechkin would like to come back for his 22nd NHL season, but he still needs to talk it over with his family.
“To be honest with you, I’m pretty sure it’s not my last game,” Ovechkin said before having his end-of-season exit meetings with coach Spencer Carbery and management. “I hope it’s not my last game against Columbus. I have to make a decision to see where we’re at: the team, family.
“Obviously, the family is going to support me, like my wife and kids.”
Ovechkin would also like to hear what the offseason plan is for GM Chris Patrick and president Brian MacLellan to get them back in Cup contention.
The Winnipeg Jets could be looking to add two top-six forwards
TSN: The Winnipeg Jets went from Presidents’ Trophy winner to the bottom third of the league and missing the playoffs. It’s likely going to be a busy offseason for Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, according to Darren Dreger.
“Maybe it starts with Jonathan Toews. There’s no clear view of what he might do in terms of his playing future and his playing future in Winnipeg. So they’re going to have to sort through that.
Cole Perfetti is a developing top young forward. So he’s in need of a contract; he’s a restricted free agent. And then on top of that, there could be and should be some shopping for the Jets.”
Dreger adds they’d like to add a No. 2 center and maybe a top-six winger.
