SPEARS-JENNINGS FOOTBALL CAMP

The Steelers added 10 players in this year’s draft, injecting their roster with young talent. Several of those players have gotten hype through early offseason activities. However, safety Robert Spears-Jennings has mostly flown under the radar.  As one of the team’s seventh-round picks, he faces an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster. But there are things to like about his game.

Spears-Jennings is still taking time this offseason to give back to others, too. He announced on Twitter that he’ll be hosting his fourth annual youth football camp on July 18th. That’s right before training camp starts, which will be key for Spears-Jennings’ chances of making the team. However, he’s still taking time to help others before that.

PACKERS JOINT PRACTICE UNLIKELY

The Steelers re-signed Aaron Rodgers, but unfortunately, he won’t have a chance to beat the Green Bay Packers, his old team, during the regular season. That’s the only team that Rodgers hasn’t beaten in his career. However, the Steelers will still face the Packers in the preseason. While Rodgers likely won’t play, he will still see his former team.

Despite Rodgers and Mike McCarthy’s familiarity with the Packers, it’s unlikely that the two teams will hold a joint practice, according to Packers head coach Matt LaFleur via Packers beat writer Ryan Wood on Twitter. The Packers are traveling to Pittsburgh for that preseason game, and it doesn’t seem like LaFleur wants to add the additional stress of a joint practice.

NO JETS JOINT PRACTICE

The Steelers haven’t been afraid to hold joint practices during training camp in the past. They practiced with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year, and they held sessions with the Buffalo Bills in 2024. However, the odds of them holding a joint practice this year are becoming increasingly unlikely.

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn shut down the idea of his team holding a joint practice with the Steelers this year, per SNY’s YouTube channel. They’ll play in the second week of the preseason, but it isn’t surprising that they won’t have a joint practice. That might be a little awkward with Aaron Rodgers, who had a rough split with the Jets. He made it clear last year that he was very happy to beat them.
