The Goalie Market This Offseason Could be Interesting to Follow

The offseason goaltender market

The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston on the goaltending market heading into the offseason.

“You know, the goalie market. We’ll see Jordan Binnington. It’s sort of a which way does it go kind of summer for him. You know, he’s one year out from UFA, you know, a sense that St. Louis is looking to shake things up with Alex Steen set to come into the GM chair. And you know, obviously his pedigree back from a long time ago, winning the Stanley Cup in 2019, but also with Team Canada, I think he’s an intriguing option for teams.

Mike Bossy’s Legacy: Islanders Icon, Goal-Scoring Legend

You know, Adin Hill is on the list, really because he’s, you know, in danger of basically being a salary cap casualty. You know, he’s been pushed aside during this playoff run by Carter Hart in Vegas, signed for a number of more years. And Vegas is going to have to clear some cap space, both to extend Rasmus Andersson, you know, Pavel Dorofeyev of coming off a great playoffs and two great regular seasons is an RFA. And you know, I just think he’s vulnerable to being moved.

And obviously, there’s teams out there looking for a goal. I mean, and Aiden Hill, big guy, athletic guy, you know, got Conn Smythe votes when the Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup in 2023. So you know he’s done it before. I think the only issue with him really is, is his health. He’s had trouble staying consistently healthy enough to play a lot of games, but you know, definitely see him as a possible goalie that we see on the move.

And you have two younger players, Sebastian Cossa, who I think we’ve touched on a bit in Detroit. Didn’t didn’t get a lot of playing time at the end of the year, was was kind of passed late in the season in Grand Rapids, and watched a lot from the bench. He’s, he’s going to lose his waiver restrictions, you know, next season. You know, they have Trey Augustine as well in the Red Wing system, he’s someone I think for teams looking for a younger goal he could trade for.

And then Devon Levi of the Buffalo Sabres, you know, slash Rochester Americans. I mean, Buffalo’s crease is already pretty stacked; they used the three goalie monster with (Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen), Alex Lyon, and Colten Ellis this year. You know, Devon Levi notably didn’t get an NHL start, and you know he’s someone that teams are certainly showing an interest in as well.

NHL Rumors: Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche, Rod Blake, and Brendan Gallagher

So, you know, there’s lots, there’s lots there for goaltending, even though maybe the free agent market doesn’t, you know, the free agent market really is Stuart Skinner and Sergei Bobrovsky at the top end of it. But we know the goalie carousel will get moving here soon.
