HIGHSMITH’S FOOTBALL CAMP
The Steelers have a strong history of edge rushers. Greg Lloyd, Kevin Greene, Jason Gildon, Joey Porter Sr., and James Harrison were all exemplary Steelers pass rushers. They have a solid group now, too. T.J. Watt is the biggest name of the bunch, Nick Herbig just got paid, and Alex Highsmith shouldn’t be forgotten about.
Highsmith has been a consistent player since entering the league, and he’s been a solid partner for Watt. However, he’s also a great leader off the field. WECT News 6 recently posted a YouTube video showing Highsmith hosting his youth football camp. It was open to boys and girls in grades two through eight, and it looks to have been a great success. Highsmith’s kindness in taking the time to give back is commendable.
FORMER STEELERS WR JOINS COWBOYS
Wide receiver Denzel Mims joined the Steelers’ practice squad during the middle of the 2023 season. While he didn’t stick with them after that year, he’s still been playing football. Originally a second-round pick by the New York Jets in 2020, Mims has spent the last few years playing in the UFL.
His work there has been good enough to get him another shot in the NFL. Reporter Todd Archer shared on Twitter that the Dallas Cowboys have signed Mims. He’s not the only former Steelers receiver with the Cowboys after George Pickens was traded to Dallas last offseason. We’ll see if Mims can stick on the Cowboys’ 53-man roster.
ROOKIES DESCRIBE PLAY STYLE
The Steelers had a big draft class this year, adding 10 players. They have several aging stars, so they’re hoping that some of their young players can be solid contributors.
The Steelers’ rookies were recently asked to describe their play styles with one word, and it sounds like they should fit in with Pittsburgh. Many of them said they’re gritty and physical. It’s a good, quick way for fans to get a read on the Steelers’ rookies.
