“Deal on” – Romano gives positive update on Chelsea move

Fabrizio Romano has just given an update on one of Chelsea’s biggest remaining moves in this transfer window, as the Blues look to sign a defender.

Maxence Lacroix’s move to Chelsea is heading in the right direction, according to an update from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano today.

Romano says that Chelsea “remain in active talks” for the defender, with the Crystal Palace man as their “priority target.”

Negotiations are said to be “ongoing”, with the player “keen on Chelsea move.”

He wants it, Chelsea want it, Palace have accepted he will probably go. It’s a question of how much they want for him, and that shouldn’t require more than another few rounds of talks. £75m would certainly get it done, and there will be the usual battle over how much of that is up front.

This is far from a crucial update, but it’s just the sort of thing you want to see at this stage – it’s a positive sign that the transfer is moving forward. Whether it’s Chelsea’s camp or Lacroix’s camp who have given Romano the information, they clearly want it out in the open that the deal is heading in the right direction.

Now that the World Cup is over, it can accelerate to a new level.

Chelsea’s move for Morgan Rogers took everyone by surprise – including Arsenal, according to a long report into how the move came about.

The signing of Rogers is going to be a big mistake says Paul Merson, who can’t see where he fits into the Chelsea team.
