Multan Sultans to get new owner as PCB set to kick out Ali Tareen after his taunting apology

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly preparing to consider new ownership for Multan Sultans ahead of the new season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The ownership rights of the teams in the PSL will come to an end in December, 10 years after the tournament began.

Ali Tareen Khan is in danger of getting blacklisted

The existing owners need to re-bid in order to retain the ownership of the teams. However, Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen Khan is in danger of getting blacklisted due to his ongoing conflict with the PCB.

Tareen has not shied away from criticizing the PCB management in recent months over a lack of transparency and the communication gap. Recently, the PCB sent him a legal notice that has further escalated the matter. The PCB demanded a public apology from Tareen, but he once again ridiculed the cricket board.

PCB reached out to two potential investors

With the relationship between PCB and Tareen turning sour, reports in Pakistani media state that the cricket board is considering new ownership for the Sultans.

The reports have claimed that if the dispute between PCB and Tareen is not settled in the coming days, the ownership of the franchise could be handed to a new owner. The reports also state that the PCB has already reached out to two potential investors interested in buying the franchise.

Multan Sultans owner taunts PCB

Earlier this week, Ali Tareen Khan issued a taunting apology to the PCB in response to their legal notice. In a nearly five-minute-long video posted on his social media accounts, Tareen used a sarcastic tone while offering his apology. He also slammed the PCB, saying that the board wanted to be surrounded by “yes-men and minions”.

“You don’t even want to work with your stakeholders,” Tareen said. “You cannot bear any criticism from anyone. If you were even remotely competent, you would have known this is not the way to manage things.

“Only a big man apologises. I apologise for wanting to make the PSL better. I apologise for raising my voice when I saw problems. It is my fault, not yours, that I was dissatisfied with your mediocre mindset. I apologise for being unhappy that you give yourselves so much credit for doing so little,” he added.

He went on to criticize the PSL and the way it is organized. Tareen concluded his video by ripping the legal notice in half.
