Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has been named in India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. He took to his social media to share this news with his fans, sharing a painting of him in Indian colors.
Injury Replacement Opened Doors
Ahead of the squad reveal, there were doubts of Sanju Samson’s inclusion in the squad. Sanju was earlier moved down the order when Shubman Gill returned to the side. Later, he was dropped entirely from the Indian setup.
However, brought in as only an injury replacement, Samson impressed in the fifth T20I against South Africa. He scored a quick 37 off 22 with four boundaries and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 168.18.
Samson has always performed best as a top-order batter. Batting lower down, he struggled and eventually lost his place in the XI. Jitesh Sharma, who is more comfortable in the middle order, took his spot.
India to Defend Their Title
Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead the T20I side in the tournament. The men in blue will look to retain the title next year. Alongside Samson, the team includes powerful batters, useful all-rounders, and a well-balanced bowling unit suited to Indian conditions.
For Sanju Samson’s fans, this is a big moment. His selection shows that the selectors trust his ability to win matches. It also keeps India’s hopes strong as they look to defend the T20 World Cup title at home.
