“This is the moment, where we have so many players missing, this is the opportunity,” Dalot later told MUTV of the pair.

“I’m very happy that they could make their debuts, and hopefully in the next games they are available and they can help us as well.”

It remains to be seen how long Fernandes is sidelined for, but his fellow countryman was in no doubt about what a miss the captain will be.

“Yeah, it’s massive,” Dalot admitted to Sky. “I mean, we don’t know how bad it is, but for him to come off [in] a game, we know how tough he is.

“Hopefully it’s not too bad and we keep with him for the next games.”
