Dwight Yorke: Huge decision taken on Trinidad and Tobago manager – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have many former players now involved in the coaching world, most notably Michael Carrick, who is currently the club’s interim manager.

Dwight Yorke

The former United striker joined the club in the summer of 1998.

Yorke played an integral role in helping the side win the treble, scoring 29 goals in his first season at the club.

The Trinidad and Tobago international would score a total of 65 goals for the club in 152 appearances.

He left the club in the 2001-2002 season for Blackburn Rovers and finally retired in the 2008-2009 season at Sunderland.

Coaching career

The former striker was manager for 19 matches at Macarthur FC in Australia but left the club in January 2023.

Yorke was then handed the role for his nation, Trinidad and Tobago, in November 2024.

He was tasked with leading them to the World Cup, but he failed to do so, managing a win percentage of just 22% for the Caribbean nation.

The former United striker guided the nation to just four wins, seven draws and seven defeats during his tenure.

Sacking

Consequently, The Sun report that “Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has been axed by Trinidad & Tobago after failing to qualify for the World Cup.”

November’s draw against Jamaica ended his side’s hopes of making the tournament, and the country was prepared to keep him on but only if he took a pay cut. Yorke refused this offer, though, and both parties have gone their separate ways.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association released a statement saying, “discussions were held between the TTFA and Mr. Yorke regarding the future of the role, including revised contractual terms and remuneration aligned to the next phase of the programme.”

The statement continued, “after these discussions, both parties were unable to reach agreement on the proposed terms at this time, and it was mutually decided to part ways.”

They did add that the door is not closed to future dialogue, though, on the role.
