India Women’s squad for South Africa T20Is announced; Anushka Sharma called up

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the India Women’s National Cricket Team squad for the upcoming South Africa T20I series. Veteran batter Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the 15-member squad in the five-match bilateral series scheduled from April 17 to April 27 in South Africa.

The South Africa tour will serve as crucial preparation for the Women in Blue ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England. Notably, the India Women’s National Cricket Team will use these challenging overseas conditions to finalize their squad before the prestigious global tournament later this year.

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma will open the batting for the India Women’s National Cricket Team. Their aggressive approach on bouncy South African pitches will be crucial for the team. Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues and wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh will stabilize the middle order.

Promising domestic players like Bharti Fulmali and Anushka Sharma have also been included in the squad. The upcoming matches against the South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team will provide these players with a final opportunity to secure spots in the T20 World Cup squad.

Pace-Spin Combination for India Women in South Africa

Arundhati Reddy won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for February 2026. She provides flexibility to the India Women’s National Cricket Team, consistently delivering early breakthroughs with the ball while contributing quick runs in the lower order.

The India Women’s National Cricket Team bowling attack features strong balance. All-rounder Deepti Sharma and spinner Shreyanka Patil will control the middle overs.

Renuka Singh Thakur will lead the pace attack alongside Kashvee Gautam, aiming to swing the new ball effectively in pace-friendly South African conditions.

The India Women’s National Cricket Team must improve consistency against the South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team. The squad needs to address middle-over scoring issues and execute better in the death overs.

The India Women’s National Cricket Team will begin their campaign with consecutive matches at the Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban on April 17 and April 19. Johannesburg will host the next two games on April 22 and April 25, before the final match in Benoni on April 27.

If the Women in Blue dominate this demanding five-match tour, Harmanpreet Kaur and her team will enter the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup as strong tournament favorites.
