Hasselbaink has very obvious Chelsea solution but he’s right with one thing

Sometimes, football doesn’t need to be as complicated as some wish to make it out to be. Sometimes, it can just be about getting that round thing into the net more times than your opponent. Sometimes, it can just be about taking more shots.

It frustrates me when I watch Chelsea lately when they get themselves into these really good shooting positions, and then they will pass out wide and try and score that perfect tap in goal by passing it into the net. Sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes, just bloody shoot. We do not take enough shots, we don’t have enough players with a deadly long range shot, and we don’t back ourselves when in those positions.

A lot of that will be down to coaching and how modern day managers want to play. But also, just take responsibility yourselves sometimes and back yourself to score as a player. We don’t have that long range shooting threat.

One player who knew all about shooting on sight and is one of the best to ever do it in a Chelsea shirt, is Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. And he’s been saying exactly the same as I’ve been saying lately in dissecting Chelsea’s issues over the weekend.

“Chelsea needs more goals in them,” Hasselbaink declared. “However you put that in the team, Chelsea needs more goals. There are a few games that they don’t score; they don’t have enough shots. I think that’s a combination for the whole team. I think they can improve in that area, but they can also improve by keeping more clean sheets.

It’s so obvious and simple when you put it like that, Jimmy! Nobody could strike a ball better than he could mind, from any angle and any distance. He was superb at that.

He went on to speak about Chelsea’s project and issues with manager changes.

“The club has decided, rightly or wrongly, to go only young. That is their prerogative. They need to give them time. You need to give that time because you’re not going to get instant success.

“Obviously you need results, but the players need to know he’s going to be there, because when players know that he is going to be changed, that body language and their way of being is different. When they know the manager has the power to do everything… players react differently. It’s just a fact.”

Some good points made.
