Depot After Dark: Cell Network Enhanced For Draft, Steelers Country, Players’ First Day Back

A Steelers Depot daily segment. A quick hit of some Pittsburgh Steelers-related stories that may not require a complete article, but nuggets worth mentioning and passing on to you guys.

Your Depot After Dark for April 8.

CELL NETWORK ENHANCED FOR DRAFT

Around 700,000 people are expected to be in Pittsburgh for the NFL draft. Detroit set the record a few years ago with around 775,000 attendees. Pittsburgh has a chance to surpass that mark, and it should be an exciting few days for the city. However, having so many people all in the same place presents some challenges, too.

That includes cellphone service, which could degrade with so many people in one place. However, Verizon is taking precautions to make that less of an issue and is preparing to enhance the network in Pittsburgh during the draft. Hopefully, that’s enough to keep it from being an issue.

STEELERS COUNTRY

The NFL draft isn’t a Steelers-centric event, but it’s being held in their city, which will put a little more focus on them. Also, it likely means more Steelers fans will be in attendance. While the draft is for every team, the Steelers are working to make those few days a little more special for their fans.

The team announced on Twitter that Steelers Country will be available at Point State Park for fans to enjoy during the draft. It’s a space dedicated for Steelers fans with plenty of activities to enjoy. That includes a bar, an immersive fan cave, live Q&As with Steelers past and present, and more. It sounds like an experience that Steelers fans will want to take time to check out.

PLAYERS’ FIRST DAY BACK

The 2026 season is still months away. The draft hasn’t even happened yet, so it’s early to look ahead to actual games. However, the NFL calendar doesn’t offer much downtime. While it’s the offseason, there are still activities for players to participate in.

That includes phase one of the Steelers’ offseason activities starting this week. The Steelers released a video on Twitter showing what some players did on their first day back. It’s all pretty basic, just making sure everyone is still in shape, but it’s a sign of things ramping up.
