NHL Rumors: Dallas Stars – Robertson, Benn, and Don’t Expect Big Changes

The Dallas Stars will talk with RFA Jason Robertson next week

Lia Assimakopoulos: Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill said that he plans on reaching out to Andy Scott, the agent for pending RFA forward Jason Robertson next week.

“That’s our focus — to get him signed. We drafted him and developed him. We think he will be a Dallas Star for the rest of his career.”

Don’t expect big changes in Dallas, and the Stars will give Jamie Benn a few weeks

Derek Van Diest of NHL.com: Despite a first-round loss to the Minnesota Wild, Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill isn’t going to blow it up. There are going to be a few changes, but they’re still a good team.

“We’re a good team, I’m not going to go and make a bunch of changes,” Nill said. “I’ve been through this rodeo before, going back to my years (as assistant general manager) in Detroit (with the Red Wings). We go three rounds and the next year you lose in the first round, and everybody wants to blow it up. And then you go the next year to the third round and win a Cup.

How can the Dallas Stars Not Extend Jason Robertson?

“Is there going to be some changes? Yes probably, it’s going to happen organically, it’s going to happen with people pushing for jobs, but I’m not blowing this up, we’re too good of a team.”

36-year-old Jamie Benn is a pending UFA and has spent his entire 17-year career with the Stars. They’ll give Benn a few weeks and then they’ll talk again.

“Jamie and I have talked just shortly,” Nill said. “We’re going to give him a couple of weeks, but I want him back. I think he wants to come back, but I’m going to give him that time. He needs to go through this and figure this out. The organization does want him back, yes.”
