Pakistan Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad announced; Fatima Sana to lead

Pakistan have named their 15-member squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in England next month.

As expected, Fatima Sana has been appointed to lead the team. The Pakistan Women’s Team recently finished a white-ball series against Zimbabwe. From the squad that faced Zimbabwe, only one change has been made, with experienced pacer Diana Baig coming in for the uncapped Amber Kainat.

Five players in the Pakistan squad are set to play their first World Cup

Of the 15 players in the squad, 5 will be playing in the T20 World Cup for the first time. Eyman Fatima, Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Saira Jabeen, and Tasmia Rubab will get their first experience of the showpiece event.

The Pakistan team has never made it to the knockout stages of a T20 World Cup and will be looking to change that. Apart from the five World Cup debutants, the squad also contains a wealth of experience.

The likes of Nashra Sandhu, Diana Baig, and skipper Fatima Sana carry enough experience with them, as do batters like Muneeba Ali and Ayesha Zafar. Gull Feroza, too, is coming into the squad after going through a rich vein of form.

Experienced campaigner to miss the T20 World Cup for the first time since her debut

For the first time since 2009, Pakistan will gear up for a T20 World Cup without spinner Nida Dar. Dar is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the history of T20Is and Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in the format, alongside being their highest-capped player.

After she lost her central contract in 2024, former skipper Dar took an indefinite break from cricket in 2025 for personal reasons. She hasn’t played any cricket since the last Women’s T20 World Cup in October 2024.

In her absence, though, relatively more experienced campaigners like Aliya Riaz, Muneeba Ali, and Nashra Sandhu, alongside skipper Fatima Sana, will take charge of the side. Sana will be especially jubilant after her record-breaking fifty against Zimbabwe on Friday.

Pakistan’s upcoming schedule for the T20 World Cup

Before the showpiece event, Pakistan will play a T20I tri-series against the West Indies and Ireland. All the matches are scheduled to be held in Dublin. The squad for that series is the same as the one that will play the T20 World Cup.

At the World Cup itself, Pakistan are placed in Group A alongside South Africa, Australia, India, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.

Pakistan will open their campaign on June 14 against arch-rivals India in Birmingham. They will stay in Birmingham to play South Africa on June 17, before taking on Bangladesh in Southampton on June 20.

Pakistan will then play Australia in Leeds on June 23 and the Netherlands in Bristol on June 27.
