37 American, Most Since 1995, to Compete in Roland-Garros Draw – Tennis Now


Paris in the springtime is go time for the American contingent. 

Per the USTA, Thirty-seven Americans – 18 men and 19 women – are set to compete in the Roland Garros singles main draw, the most since 39 in 1995 (20 women, 19 men).

The 19 U.S. women competing in the Roland Garros main draw equals last year’s total, which had been the most since 20 in 2003, and the 18 U.S. men competing in the Roland Garros main draw is the most since 19 in 1995.

Seven American women are seeded, and six American men are seeded. 

Coco Gauff, seeded fourth, is defending her title on the women’s side, while an American man has not won the Roland-Garros title since Andre Agassi triumphed in Paris in 1999. 

The French Open singles main draw begins Sunday, May 24.
