The Impact the Brady Tkachuk Trade Has on a Dylan Larkin Trade

It set a bar, but the Brady Tkachuk trade took one of the teams with appealing assets out of the running for Dylan Larkin

Fellowship of the Rink: Max Bultman on the Podcast, on the impact the Brady Tkachuk trade could have on a Dylan Larkin trade, and what the Detroit Red Wings might be hoping for in return.

** NHLRumors.com transcription

“I think Red Wings fans saw that trade, they immediately went ‘Perfect. This is the bar now for a Larkin trade.’ I think a lot of them want to view it as the floor for a Larkin trade, and there’s merit to that, right?

NHL Rumors: Robertson and Blues, Wild and Trocheck

Like Larkin and Brady, very comparable production over the last four or five years. Different players, but Larkin’s a center, he’s got more term on his deal. Brady’s obviously like the more physical presence. Power winger, I think, is pretty much as hard to find as a top-line center in the National Hockey League these days. So comparable value Larkin has, and Brady’s younger, but Larkin has the more term.

And so I think Red Wings fans saw them, were like, ‘Great, this is the bar.’ And they’re, I think that’s the case. The Red Wings will try to make the teams. And they may get it, they may get more than that.

But what I saw is one of the top suitors coming off the board. And in an environment where players are controlling their fate, where they can say these are the teams that I’m interested in going to.

Florida was a team that had the assets to do something like that they, like they did for Brady Tkachuk. And some of the other reported teams, like, I don’t see how Vegas can put together a particularly compelling offer for what the Red Wings need and where the Red Wings are going, right?

Montreal Canadiens Rumors: They Have the Assets to Be Aggressive

And, and maybe the Tampa’s or the Dallas’s could get there. Minnesota, obviously, is going to be around this, and I’m sure that’s what we’re going to talk about very soon here. But it took one of the teams with the most appealing assets on the board.
