From Perugia vs Lube to Nebraska vs Penn State, these are the volleyball rivalries producing the most drama, upsets, and betting value.
Volleyball rivalries get tense in the stands, and that energy transfers straight onto the court. The result: rival teams give their absolute utmost, frequently causing chaos in the betting universe. Live prices can swing fast in matches like these, which is exactly why pro bettors lean on sure bets finder to turn that chaos into profit. Casuals love these rivalries too, and for good reason: they consistently produce something spectacular.Â
With that in mind, here are five rivalries that deliver on both fronts, drama and value alike.
Sir Safety Perugia vs. Cucine Lube Civitanova
Whenever these two teams share a court, expect a five-setter. Italy’s SuperLega has been carried by this rivalry for the better part of a decade. Perugia and Lube have met in the playoffs repeatedly, including a dramatic 2025 semifinal in which Lube stormed back from two games down to win the series 3-2, and a 2026 championship series in which Perugia turned the tables and reclaimed the title in three straight games.Â
Zenit Kazan vs. Cucine Lube Civitanova
This one plays out on the European stage rather than the domestic one. Zenit Kazan and Lube met in back-to-back CEV Champions League finals in 2018 and 2019, with Kazan claiming a five-set thriller for their fourth straight European crown in 2018, only for Lube to reverse the result a year later and end Kazan’s stranglehold on the trophy. The two clubs had also clashed in the 2017 FIVB Club World Championship final, giving this rivalry a rare distinction: two of the sport’s biggest global trophies decided directly between the same two teams within a two-year span.
Melissa Humana-Paredes/Brandie Wilkerson vs. Taryn Kloth/Kristen Nuss
Beach volleyball’s must-watch pairing right now is Canada against the United States. Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson pulled off one of the biggest shocks of the Paris 2024 Olympics by eliminating Kloth and Nuss in the round of 16, then beat them again in a nail-biting AVP Chicago final later that year. Every meeting between these two duos has gone the distance, and both sides have openly admitted that facing the other always means a battle to the final point.
Nebraska vs. Penn State
American college volleyball doesn’t have a bigger rivalry than this one. Penn State’s dynasty under Russ Rose, capped by four straight national titles from 2007 to 2010, was repeatedly built around statement wins over Nebraska, while the Cornhuskers have returned the favor over the years with their own iconic upsets. It’s safe to say that both of these schools belong among the most successful programs in women’s NCAA volleyball history.Â
Their rivalry reached a new peak in the 2024 national semifinal, when Penn State completed a reverse sweep against Nebraska from 22-16 down in the fourth set, one of the most dramatic comebacks in Final Four history.
Brazil vs. Italy
At the international level, no rivalry currently means more than this one. Italy’s women’s national team went 39 straight matches without a loss, a run that included Olympic gold, a World Championship, and back-to-back Nations League titles, before Brazil finally ended the streak in a sold-out BrasÃlia arena in June 2026. On the men’s side, the two nations have traded Olympic finals and World Championship battles for over two decades, and their head-to-head record remains close across every major competition they’ve shared.
