Bellingham outshines Haaland to send England to World Cup

Jude Bellingham stole the show in Miami.

England’s superstar midfielder scored both of his team’s goals in the Three Lions’ 2-1 victory over Norway in a grueling extra-time quarterfinal clash at the World Cup on Saturday.

England will now play either Argentina or Switzerland in the semifinals.

Bellingham pounced on a juicy rebound to find the net in the 93rd minute for the match-winner after the two sides finished normal time level at one apiece.

It’s the second consecutive game in which Bellingham has recorded a brace after his equally brilliant showing in the previous round against Mexico.

The Real Madrid star, substituted in the second half of extra time to raucous applause, now has six goals at the tournament this summer, level with captain Harry Kane for the team lead.

Erling Haaland, struggling physically in the exhausting Miami heat and humidity, was also substituted out of the match before the final whistle, coming off prior to the start of the second half of extra time.

His spectacular World Cup debut ends with seven goals in five appearances.

Andreas Schjelderup gave Norway a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute, but Bellingham equalized in first-half stoppage time.

Nobody could break the deadlock in the second half of normal time, though Norway came closest on multiple occasions.

Torbjorn Heggem thought he’d restored Norway’s lead in the 56th minute, but his goal was chalked off after a VAR review determined that Haaland fouled Elliot Anderson prior to the corner kick from which Norway scored.

Kristoffer Ajer then hit the crossbar from another corner kick in the 76th minute.

The Norwegians, one of the great stories of this summer’s event, were looking to reach the semifinals at the men’s World Cup for the first time ever.

England, meanwhile, will return to the final four at the tournament for the first time since 2018.
