TOMLIN’S CAMP MEMORIES
Mike Tomlin is no longer the Steelers’ head coach, but he isn’t out of the NFL completely. He’s working as an analyst for NBC, and he made his broadcasting debut Thursday night. Tomlin shared some fun stories and used his unique way of speaking to impress.
He stated that he’s happy to not be spending time in a Saint Vincent College dorm room at training camp. However, Tomlin still has plenty of fond memories of camp.
He was asked to share his most memorable player arrivals to camp during his time with the Steelers. The Steelers had plenty of colorful characters throughout Tomlin’s Pittsburgh tenure, and some of them made flashy entrances. Tomlin’s answer included Brett Keisel arriving on “farm equipment” and Steelers offensive lineman showing up in little “clown” cars.
FORMER STEELERS IN TEMPLE HOF
The Steelers have had plenty of great players and coaches over the years. They are well represented in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but not everyone reaches that level. However, there are other honors for coaches and players to earn. That includes getting into their college’s Hall of Fame.
Former Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and former linebacker Tyler Matakevich will be inducted into Temple’s Athletics Hall of Fame this year. Arians was with the Steelers from 2004-2011, helping them win two Super Bowls. Meanwhile, Matakevich had two different stints with the team, first from 2016-2019 and then in 2024.
Arians served as the Owls’ head coach from 1983-88, and two his biggest wins came in his second season when Temple upset Pitt and West Virginia. Matakevich is one of the most decorated players in program history. A consensus All-American in 2015, he also won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award that season.
Each are given to the best defensive player in the country.
RENEGADE IN MADDEN
The Steelers have existed for almost 100 years, and they have a lot of traditions. One of the most notable ones is playing Styx’s Renegade in the fourth quarter of home games. The Steelers have had plenty of big moments after playing Renegade, and it usually injects energy into the crowd.
Now, fans who enjoy the Madden video game will get to hear Renegade, too. Ari Meirov shared the soundtrack for this year’s edition of the game, and it includes Renegade. Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa will also be in the game, so there are multiple songs for Steelers fans to enjoy.
