BANGKOK, Thailand — Asian Volleyball Confederation President Ramon Suzara officially opened the 26th AVC General Assembly on Saturday in Bangkok, welcoming volleyball leaders and delegates from across the continent for a key gathering focused on governance, development and the continued advancement of Asian volleyball.
Addressing delegates, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo, AVC Zonal Vice Presidents and members of the Asian volleyball community, Suzara underscored the importance of unity and collaboration as the Confederation charts its next steps.
“Beyond the formalities of this meeting, it is truly wonderful to be together in one room, united by our shared passion for this incredible sport,” Suzara said.
Suzara said the General Assembly provides an important opportunity for AVC and its members to make decisions that strengthen the organization while keeping athletes and National Federations at the center of its work.
Among the major matters being addressed is an update to the AVC Constitution, along with proposals from the Confederation’s technical bodies. Suzara emphasized that these governance and administrative discussions ultimately serve AVC’s broader mission of developing the sport throughout the continent.
“We are here to make decisions that will empower our athletes, support our national federations, and elevate volleyball across every corner of Asia,” Suzara said.
The General Assembly also puts a spotlight on the activities and achievements of AVC’s five zones — Central, Eastern, Oceania, Southeastern and Western — and their role in driving the continued development of volleyball and beach volleyball across the continent.
Suzara recognized the work being carried out across the zones and the collective contribution of National Federations and Zonal Associations to the growth of Asian volleyball.
“I would like to recognize the remarkable achievements of our five AVC Zones and the outstanding work being carried out by our National Federations and Zonal Associations. Through your dedication and collaboration, we continue to expand opportunities for our athletes, strengthen our competitions, and advance the development of volleyball and beach volleyball throughout Asia,” Suzara said.
“The continued progress we are witnessing across the continent reflects our shared commitment to excellence. Together, we will continue to build a stronger and more united Asian volleyball community, creating new pathways for future generations and further elevating our sport on the world stage.”
The program also features a special FIVB Empowerment presentation led by Hitesh Malhotra, further emphasizing development and support for National Federations as central priorities of the gathering.
Delegates are also deliberating on proposals from AVC’s technical bodies, with recommendations focused on enhancing competitions, strengthening governance, advancing technical excellence and supporting the sustainable development of volleyball and beach volleyball throughout Asia.
Discussions on the continued partnership between AVC and Volleyball World are also part of the gathering, reinforcing collaboration aimed at strengthening Asian volleyball and expanding its reach.
Suzara closed his welcome by calling for a productive and collaborative General Assembly as AVC and its members work together toward their shared goals.
“Let us embark on a highly productive, collaborative, and successful assembly,” Suzara said.
