WATCH: Maheesh Theekshana plucks a stunning catch to dismiss Rahkeem Cornwall in CPL 2026

Maheesh Theekshana produced one of the standout moments of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 when the Saint Lucia Kings spinner completed a sharp return catch to dismiss Rahkeem Cornwall during their clash against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown.

The Kings eventually held their nerve in a closely fought contest, defeating the Falcons by just four runs after posting 187/8 in their allotted 20 overs. While Andries Gous’ explosive 82 and some disciplined bowling efforts grabbed plenty of attention, Theekshana’s brilliant piece of fielding provided one of the most memorable moments of the match.

The dismissal came during the fourth over of Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ chase. Theekshana bowled a delivery that was slightly short, and Cornwall attempted to chip it back towards the bowler. Instead of allowing the ball to pass, Theekshana reacted instantly and threw himself low to complete a superb catch.

The spinner managed to get both hands to the ball and held on cleanly despite the sharp nature of the chance. Cornwall, who had looked dangerous at the start of the innings, was visibly disappointed after seeing the replay confirm that Theekshana had completed a clean catch.

The dismissal also ended the opening partnership and gave the Saint Lucia Kings an important breakthrough at a crucial stage of the chase. The catch was particularly impressive because of the minimal reaction time available to Theekshana. A ball travelling straight back at the bowler can often be difficult to judge, but the Sri Lankan spinner displayed excellent reflexes to pull off the chance.

Andries Gous powers Saint Lucia Kings to a strong total

Earlier, Saint Lucia Kings captain Roston Chase won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision initially appeared to be paying dividends as the Kings put together a competitive total of 187/8 in 20 overs. Andries Gous was the driving force behind the innings. The batter played an outstanding attacking knock of 82 from just 51 deliveries, smashing six fours and six sixes.

Gous’ combination of power and placement kept the Falcons’ bowlers under pressure throughout his stay at the crease. However, the Kings struggled to find another substantial contribution, with Ackeem Auguste’s 18 being the next-highest score.

For Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, Alzarri Joseph was the standout bowler. He finished with impressive figures of 3/32 from his four overs and prevented the Kings from pushing their total even higher.

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons fall agonisingly short

The Falcons responded strongly but ultimately finished on 183/7, falling just four runs short of the Kings’ total. Evin Lewis led the chase with an important 48, but the Falcons were unable to find the finishing touch required to cross the line. Theekshana and Chase played key roles with the ball for Saint Lucia Kings, picking up two wickets apiece while conceding only 18 runs each.

With the match going down to the final stages, those economical spells proved crucial. In the end, the Kings held their nerve to secure a thrilling four-run victory. However, for Theekshana, the highlight of the night was arguably his spectacular return catch. His reflexes turned a straightforward-looking chip into one of the most eye-catching fielding moments of CPL 2026 so far.
