August is where dynasty managers can talk themselves into almost anything. One big practice becomes a breakout, one missed week becomes a collapse, and suddenly a player’s price has moved before we’ve seen a real snap. I’m not chasing every camp headline. I’m looking for the spots where the market price and my current dynasty board are far enough apart that I’m willing to act.
These are my dynasty trade targets before Week 1. Four are players I’m trying to buy, three are players I’d shop if the market still pays the higher price, and one is a player where I’m letting the offer decide what I do. Every example below is for a 12-team PPR, 1-QB league unless noted otherwise.

Start With the Current Price
Before I send anything, I want to know where the player sits on my board and how far I have to move to get him. The PFM Dynasty Trade Value Chart gives me the current player and future-pick prices, while the Dynasty Trade Calculator lets me build the full deal.
I still care more about the best asset and the tier I’m moving into than making two numbers match perfectly. If I can turn a player I have lower into one I have much higher without adding much, that’s the kind of deal I want to attack.

Brown is 29, so I get why dynasty managers are ready to move him down. I just think the discount has gone too far. I still have him at WR14, and FantasyPros Dynasty ECR has him at WR20. That’s enough of a gap for me to start checking whether his manager is trying to get younger just for the sake of getting younger.
The move to New England doesn’t scare me. Brown has finished as a WR1 in fantasy points per game in four straight seasons, and last year he still commanded a 27.5% target share. Now he gets Drake Maye in an offense that threw at a higher neutral rate than Philadelphia did last season. The Patriots have also been getting real work out of the Maye-Brown connection throughout camp.
I’m not buying him because I expect five more elite seasons. I think he still has multiple high-end years left, and the market is starting to price him like the drop-off is already here.
The Deal I’d Send

This is exactly the type of market gap I want to use. Burden is WR19 in current Dynasty ECR while Brown is WR20, so the consensus market can justify the deal. My board has Brown WR14 and Burden WR31. If I can make that swap straight up on a team trying to win, I’m doing it. I would not add a future first on top of Burden.

Watson is one of the easier buys on my board because the market still seems to be pricing in the old version of his role. I have him at WR22. Current Dynasty ECR has him at WR30, and that gap looks too wide after the way Green Bay used him when he was healthy last year.
From Weeks 8-18, Watson was WR21 in fantasy points per game while playing only a 68% route share. He averaged 61.1 receiving yards per game and 2.67 yards per route run during that stretch. Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks are gone, Watson signed a four-year extension, and Green Bay’s own camp coverage has repeatedly pointed to a strong start for him this summer.
Injuries are still part of the price. I’m not pretending they don’t exist. But if the role is finally moving toward full-time work, I don’t want to wait until September to pay for the breakout after everybody can see it.
The Deal I’d Try

Current ECR prefers Lemon at WR24 to Watson at WR30. I have Watson WR22 and Lemon WR29. If a rookie-focused manager will take Lemon straight up, I’d rather have the receiver who has already shown he can win NFL routes and produce when healthy. I would not add a meaningful future pick just to force it.
Christian McCaffrey: I’m Buying the Window, Not the Age

McCaffrey is not the buy for every dynasty roster. If I’m rebuilding, I’m not sending young assets for a 30-year-old running back. If I’m a contender, this is exactly the kind of age discount I’m willing to take because McCaffrey can still win me a league.
He led the NFL with 413 touches last season and finished as the RB1 in fantasy points per game. San Francisco also got 102 catches and 924 receiving yards out of him, so this wasn’t a back surviving on touchdowns. The rushing efficiency slipped, and the 49ers have talked about managing the wear, but the receiving role still gives him a way to stay elite even if the carries come down.
Dynasty managers can get so focused on the age cliff that they sell a useful season or two too early. I don’t want McCaffrey at a young-RB price, but I absolutely want him if another manager is discounting what he can still do just because he’s 30.
The Contender Swap I’d Make

ECR has Hall RB10 and McCaffrey RB15. My board has that order flipped, with McCaffrey RB9 and Hall RB16. On a real contender, I’d make the straight-up swap. On a rebuilding roster, I wouldn’t. Team direction matters here more than pretending there is one answer for every dynasty roster.

Henderson isn’t a buy because PFM is way above consensus. We’re not. I have him RB12 and current Dynasty ECR also has him RB12. The buy is about finding the manager who expected him to take the entire New England backfield as a rookie and is now disappointed that Rhamondre Stevenson is still involved.
The split last season was real. With Stevenson active, Henderson averaged 11.2 touches and 57.2 total yards per game. Without him in Weeks 9-11, that jumped to 19 touches and 110 total yards. Henderson still has work to do as a runner and in pass protection, but he already showed what the ceiling looks like when the workload opens.
I don’t need New England to hand him 20 touches in September. At 23 years old, I’m buying the chance that his role grows instead of paying the full price after it happens.

Breece Hall: I’m Selling Only If I Get the RB10 Price

Hall is not a panic sell. The Jets gave him a three-year extension, the offensive line was creating room last season, and he still ranked near the top of the league in explosive-run and missed-tackle rate. There is a real bounce-back case here.
My issue is the price. Hall finished as RB20 in fantasy points per game last year, his target share fell to a career-low 10.9%, and I currently have him RB16 in dynasty. FantasyPros ECR still has him RB10. If another manager is willing to pay the top-10 dynasty RB price, I’m going to use it.
I’m not saying Hall is about to fall off. If the offers are weak, I’m keeping him. But if another manager still wants to pay the RB10 price, I’m listening.
The Return I’d Ask For

I’d start by asking for Henderson plus a 2027 second because the market still has Hall two RB spots ahead of him. If the other manager comes back with Henderson straight up, I still have a decision to make because my own board has Henderson four RB spots higher. Lemon is a good dynasty prospect. Philadelphia traded up for him in the first round, he can play inside or outside, and I understand why managers want to bet on the rookie before we’ve even seen the full role. I just don’t want to pay WR24 prices for that bet yet.
DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert are already going to command targets, and Lemon has now missed close to a week with a hamstring injury. That injury isn’t why I’m selling. It just takes away some of the camp reps that could have made an already crowded rookie-year path easier.
I have Lemon WR29, only five spots below ECR, so this isn’t some massive fade. It’s a spot where I’d rather cash in the rookie premium for a receiver I already know can produce at the NFL level.

This is the same market gap from the Watson section in reverse. If somebody prefers Lemon’s age and draft capital, I’m happy to take Watson’s proven production and clearer 2026 role. If I have to add a second on top of Lemon, the value stops making sense for me.
Luther Burden III: The Market Is Paying for the Breakout Early

Burden is probably the player in this article people will push back on the most, and I understand it. He finished his rookie year much better than he started it, Ben Johnson spent the spring talking him up, and the Bears moved DJ Moore out of the way. There is a real breakout case.
I’m still selling if someone values him like WR19. Burden had 47 catches for 652 yards in the regular season, and now a groin injury is expected to cost him the preseason even though the early expectation is that he can return around Week 1. Rome Odunze and Colston Loveland aren’t going anywhere, either. I like Burden. I just don’t have him anywhere close to the current market price.
I don’t think Burden is a bad dynasty asset. I just think WR19 is a price I’d rather sell than pay.
The Veteran I’d Take Instead

Brian Thomas Jr.: I’m Letting the Offer Decide

Thomas is the player where I’m not interested in forcing a trade. Last season was a mess compared with the breakout rookie year. Injuries kept interrupting him, he caught 48 passes for 707 yards and two touchdowns, and Trevor Lawrence admitted there were times when the two of them weren’t on the same page.
The reason I’m not selling low is that the camp reports have been much better. Lawrence says their chemistry has taken a huge step, and Jacksonville’s own coverage has repeatedly highlighted Thomas during a strong camp. The talent didn’t disappear. What I need to see is whether the offense actually puts him back in a role that deserves the old dynasty price.
PFM has him WR32 and current Dynasty ECR is WR29. That’s close enough that I don’t see a market mistake I have to attack. I see a player where a discounted offer can make me a buyer and an aggressive offer can make me a seller.

Where My Dynasty Board Is Different From the Market
I don’t want the PFM rankings to turn into ECR with a different logo. Consensus is useful because it tells me what I might actually have to pay, but it doesn’t make the decision for me. If I’m 10 or 12 positional spots away from the market, I want a football reason for it.
The biggest gaps are the ones I care about. ECR has Burden one WR spot ahead of Brown, while my board has Brown 17 overall spots higher. Watson and Lemon give me another spot where I’d rather take the proven NFL production. Those are the differences that can actually turn into trades.
The trade itself still matters more than the headline. A 3-for-1 isn’t automatically good because the smaller values add up, and a contender shouldn’t make the same decision as a rebuild. That’s why I use the rankings to set the order, the Trade Value Chart to check the price and the Trade Calculator to look at the whole offer.
Run the Trade Before You Send It
If another manager sees a player differently than I do, that’s where a deal gets interesting. The rankings tell me who I’d rather own, and the trade value tells me whether I can actually get there without forcing it.
If you have an offer sitting in your inbox, check the current values and build both sides. If I’m moving into the better tier without giving away another asset I actually need, I’m willing to be aggressive.
