Chonburi, Thailand – Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines showed their early spark after collecting victories in Day 2 of women’s beach volleyball at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
Hosts Thailand triumphed over opponents Indonesia to complete a 2-0 card on Saturday at Chonburi’s Jomtien Beach. Thailand 1 Worapeerachayakorn/Naraphornrapat overcame a shaky start, to win 2-1 (20-22, 21-16, 17-15) over impressive Indonesian tandem Desi/Nur Atika. When Center Court switched over to the second teams, Udomchavee/Numwong breezed through with a 2-0 win (21-11, 21-18) over Josephine/Bernadette Shella.
Vietnam cruised through day 2 without dropping any sets so far, starting with victory for the first team D.T.M. Nga/M.H. Hanh over Malaysia 1 Aina/Aishah, 2-0 (21-7, 21-8). C.N.Lan/N.L.T.T. Vy (VIE2) followed up with another victory, 2-0 (21-8, 21-13) over Tasha/Auni (MAS2).
The Philippines boosted their rankings with Friday’s 2-0 card. Rondina/Pons(PHI1) punched in a 2-0 win (21-10, 21-6) over Chong E.H.H./Chan T.W. (SGP 1). After, Rodriguez/Villapando (PHI2) completed another 2-0 match (21-11, 21-8) over Lee X.E.V./Ang H.Y. (SGP2).
With the competition’s single round robin format, Vietnam now top the rankings. Hosts Thailand settle in second after dropping a set on Saturday, while the Philippines take third place after day 2 of competition.
