RUSSELL WILSON COULD GO TO TV
The Steelers haven’t been able to find their next franchise quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger retired. Kenny Pickett didn’t work out, and the Steelers have kicked the tires on veteran signal callers in recent years. That included Russell Wilson in 2023. While Wilson wasn’t great in Pittsburgh, he helped the team make the playoffs.
Wilson played for the New York Giants last year, and things didn’t go great for him there. He only ended up playing in six games with three starts. Now, he’s a free agent, but he might not return to the NFL. The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reported on Twitter that Wilson could change his career to work in television, perhaps joining CBS’ NFL Today. It’s not a done deal yet, though.
HEYWARD SHIRT
Cam Heyward is one of the best Steelers in recent history. He’s going into his 16th season, and while he’s nearing the end of his career, he’s still playing at a high level. However, Heyward isn’t the first person in his family to build a solid NFL career. His father, Craig Heyward, was a running back in the league for more than a decade. Unfortunately, the elder Heyward passed away in 2006.
The younger Heyward tries to honor his father whenever he can. That includes having him on his shirt over this year’s draft weekend. Homage shared on Twitter that Heyward had them create a shirt with his father on it, and it’s on sale now. It features the elder Heyward in his college days at the University of Pittsburgh, and it could be a nice purchase for fans of either Heyward.
SAINTS ROOKIE WAS STEELERS FAN
The Steelers have one of the NFL’s biggest fanbases, in part because they’ve been so successful. They established one of the league’s best dynasties in the 1970s, winning four Super Bowls. Then, they won two more Super Bowls in the 2000s. They even have some NFL players among their fanbase.
New Orleans Saints rookie undrafted free agent corner Jeremiah McClendon recently revealed on the After Further Review: Saints podcast that he was a Steelers fan. While McClendon attended South Illinois University and is from Florida, he became a Steelers fan because of Antonio Brown. Brown is also from Florida, and he was one of the most exciting players of his generation, so that makes sense.
