At least one Dolphins player thinks Tua Tagovailoa will start for Atlanta Falcons in 2026

The Miami Dolphins gave former #5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, his walking-papers this offseason when new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan began the organization’s latest rebuild upon taking the job in South Florida. Soon after, the lefty signal-caller was picked up by the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons already had a lefty starting quarterback — the #8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Michael Penix — which left some wondering who would be the man lining up behind center come the start of the 2026 regular season.

During his interview with former Dolphins left tackle, Terron Armstead, on the former player’s podcast, “The Set,” Miami’s current starting left tackle, Patrick Paul, predicted that Tagovailoa would have a bounce-back year with Atlanta while winning the starting job with the Falcons.

“He’s definitely going to win that spot,” stated Paul.

Now, it must be said that Tagovailoa may have a leg-up in the competition with Penix, considering the soon-to-be third-year player is coming back from a torn ACL suffered in November. If Penix isn’t ready to return until late in the offseason, Miami’s former starting quarterback may win the job by default.

Regardless, Paul is rooting for his former teammate.

“He’s a great player, so definitely rooting for him.”
