Right-hander Austin Voth signed with the Samsung Lions of the Korea Baseball Organization over the weekend (link via Jeeho Yoo of Yonhap News). It’s a temporary six-week contract that pays Voth, a client of THE TEAM, $150K. He’s an injury replacement for righty Ariel Jurado, who will be out for a while with shoulder inflammation.
Voth was granted his release from a minor league contract with Texas last week. That came after just one Triple-A start, which pointed to likely interest from an overseas club. That proved to be the case, as Voth heads to Korea for the first time in his career. The 34-year-old had spent the 2025 season in Japan with the Chiba Lotte Marines, for which he turned in a 3.96 earned run average over 125 innings.
It has been an eventful year for Voth. He returned to affiliated ball over the winter on a minor league deal with the White Sox. Voth didn’t reach the big leagues with Chicago but has logged brief stints at the highest level for the Blue Jays and Twins. He has allowed 12 runs on 19 hits and six walks across 10 combined innings. Voth was tagged for four runs in five innings during his lone start with Round Rock. He’s having a decent Triple-A season overall, though, tallying a 4.01 ERA with a league average 21% strikeout rate through 12 starts — albeit while averaging just over four frames per appearance.
Voth has pitched parts of eight seasons in the majors. He has an ERA just under 5.00 across 370 1/3 career innings. Voth had a decent year in middle relief with the Mariners in 2024, working to a 3.69 ERA through 61 frames.
