Sinner will not go for the calendar year golden Masters, and Djokovic will miss Montreal as well.
Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have pulled out of the Omnium Banque Nationale.
The tournament, set to start it’s main draw on Saturday August 2, announced the news on Friday.
It’s rough news for the tournament, and for Sinner, who will forgo his bid to become the first player to win all nine Masters 1000 events in a single season to rest and recover for the Cincinnati Open.
Not surprising for Djokovic, who last played the Canada Masters in 2018.

Sinner won his lone Canadian title in 2023 and last appeared in 2024.
It’s not a good look for Tennis Canada or the tour and they expressed their dissatisfaction in a statement.
“We are obviously very disappointed that Jannik and Novak won’t be joining us in Montréal this year, especially after they also withdrew from last year’s tournament in Toronto. We respect their decisions and understand that, with such a demanding schedule, players’ health must remain the priority,” said Valérie Tétreault, Tournament Director of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montréal. “That said, we believe the frequency of these last-minute withdrawals in the last few years raises a broader issue for our sport. Masters 1000 events are among the flagship tournaments on the tour, and fans rightfully expect to see the world’s best compete. We are already in discussions with the ATP to ensure this matter receives serious consideration. We firmly believe adjustments are needed in the near future to better protect the integrity of our Masters 1000 events while remaining mindful of the realities players face.”
The 12-day, 96-player event will feature 2017 champion Alexander Zverev as its top seed. Gael Monfils and Gabriel Diallo have already been awarded main draw wild cards.
The main draw will feature four former champions who have previously lifted the trophy in Canada: defending champion and World No. 5 Ben Shelton (2025); Daniil Medvedev (2021); and Pablo Carreño Busta (2022).
