The Pittsburgh Steelers recently signed S Rayshawn Jenkins. This was on the heels of the safety room running thin after several safeties were sidelined during training camp. Today, I wanted to share an impressive coverage feat that stood out from Jenkins’ 2025 season.
Here, we see that Jenkins had the fifth-best QB rating against (47.2) among safeties with at least 200 coverage snaps. Last season, 94 safeties played at least that many coverage snaps, giving more context to the quality of his competition.
Jenkins had relatively minimal playing time and recorded exactly 200 coverage snaps. He played in all 17 games, so this wasn’t due to a lack of availability. The Steelers hope that their entire safety room gets healthier sooner rather than later. But an experienced player who posted this good of a coverage number in 2025 is a good insurance policy.
With his experience comes age; he’s currently 32 years old. Several Steelers fans may be tired of the recent older DB signings that generally haven’t worked out well. But Jenkins, who has nine seasons under his belt and is doing some nice things on the field, including last year, is a nice add this late in the offseason.
Let’s look at Jenkins’ QB rating against for his career (reminder that lower QB rating against numbers are best):
2025: 47.2
2024: 115.5
2023: 72.0

2019: 60.0

2017: 78.3
Jenkins’ second-best result came as a third-year player back in 2019, posting a respectable 60.0 QB rating against. His worst result was more recent than ideal; in 2024 he had a 115.5 QB rating against. For context, a 100.6 QB rating against in 2025 was the average from the chart above. So Jenkins not only put together an impressive number in 2025, but he also posted above-average numbers in eight of his nine NFL seasons. Welcome to the Black and Gold.
