NBA referees will begin wearing headsets during regular season games for the first time which will be used during instant reply reviews and other stoppages but not during live play.
Later in the season, the league plans to allow referees to communicate directly with the replay center and each other at all times.
Other leagues have used similar technology for some time. The NBA has tested the technology since 2022 at various events.
