Dual ParaVolley Coaching Course Empowers Pacific Nations < World ParaVolleyWorld ParaVolley

The landmark dual Level 1 coaching course in the Solomon Islands has successfully concluded, marking a historic milestone in the global development of ParaVolley.

Delivered in Honiara through a strong partnership between the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport, Solomon Islands National Paralympic Committee, Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation, and World ParaVolley, the initiative brought together coaches and stakeholders from across the Pacific in an unprecedented learning experience.

A World First in Coach Education

The programme made history by producing the first-ever World ParaVolley qualified coaches in Beach ParaVolley (standing), while also strengthening the sitting volleyball coaching network in the region.

  • Sitting Volleyball Course: 8 coaches from 6 countries
  • Beach ParaVolley Course: 16 coaches from 7 countries

This unique dual certification format enabled participants to gain knowledge and practical experience across both indoor and beach disciplines, a major step forward in expanding ParaVolley’s global footprint.

 Collaboration, Learning, and Lasting Impact

Across the week, participants engaged in a dynamic mix of theoretical sessions, practical on-court learning, and continuous assessment, ensuring a comprehensive and hands-on educational experience.

The courses also served as a platform to capture valuable photo and video content, which will support the ongoing development of World ParaVolley’s educational resources, particularly future e-learning programmes.

The strong presence of representatives from key national organisations highlighted the importance of collaboration and shared commitment to growing inclusive sport opportunities across the region.

Voices from the Programme

Coach Tutor Aaron Alsop reflected on the significance of the initiative:

“It’s an honour and privilege to represent World ParaVolley in facilitating the world’s first dual coach certification programme for sitting indoor and standing beach ParaVolley coaches. The Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport is the perfect location to host our coaching course, with world-class facilities all in one campus. It’s an exciting opportunity to have so many Pacific nations come together and develop their coaches, who will be empowered to initiate ParaVolley programmes back in their home nations.”

Regional Vision and Future Growth

Representing the Asia-Oceania region, Weiping Tu emphasised the broader impact of the courses:

“These courses represent a significant step in strengthening ParaVolley development across the Pacific. By investing in coaches, we are building the foundation for sustainable growth, increasing participation opportunities, and creating clear pathways towards regional and international competition.”

A Foundation for the Future

More than just a course, this initiative has laid the groundwork for long-term development in the Pacific. With newly qualified coaches returning home equipped with knowledge, tools, and inspiration, the momentum for ParaVolley growth in the region is stronger than ever.

As World ParaVolley continues to expand its global coaching pathways, the Solomon Islands stands as a pioneering example of innovation, collaboration, and impact, from court to coast.
