Steelers Trade Down In Fifth Round Of 2026 Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded down from the No. 161 pick of the fifth round to No. 169. Omar Khan moved the Steelers eight picks down the board in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, and swapped a seventh-rounder to move back up into the sixth.

The Chiefs used that pick to select Nebraska RB Emmett Johnson.

This is the Steelers’ third trade of the draft, with a move up in the second and third rounds. This time, they opted to move back. Pittsburgh gave up its sixth-round pick in one of the trades on Day 2, so this allowed them to pick it back up.

Khan has made his trade-down philosophy clear over the year in various interviews. He never wants to trade away from a player they love, and he will only move down as far as their big board allows. If they have four players they are comfortable drafting, Khan will only move back three spots to ensure at least one is still available. In theory, this means the Steelers have eight picks of roughly the same value on their big board at this point in the draft.

Moving back in the draft order is rare for the Steelers. Omar Khan had made two such moves in the later rounds during his tenure so far. In 2023, Khan dealt the No. 80 overall pick in the third round in exchange for the No. 93 pick in the third round and the No. 132 pick in the fourth round. Those two picks turned into TE Darnell Washington and OLB Nick Herbig. He also dealt a fifth-round pick to move back for a fifth and seventh in 2025 to net Yahya Black and Carson Bruener.

Here is the updated draft order with the latest trade factored in.
