Fred VanVleet has suffered a torn ACL and will likely be out for the entire 2025-26 season.
VanVleet and the Rockets agreed to a two-year, $50 million contract this offseason with a player option for the 2026-27 season.
The Rockets were expected to be one of the main contenders to unseat the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference, but now must do so without their starting point guard.
The Rockets don’t currently have any room under the first apron to sign another player, but they will be able to sign a player in January to a rest-of-season contract. The Rockets are expected to give more minutes to Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard at point guard.Â
